Noncredit Certificate Program

A Monthly Series in 7 Installments

The Non-Profit Institute (NPI) offers a professional development non-credit certificate program for leaders and managers in non-profit organizations throughout the Shenandoah Valley. The Institute offers practical skills for effective leadership in your organization and includes 40+ hours of professional development instruction. Participants must complete at least 20 sessions, not including the Opening Session and Graduation, to receive the certificate in Nonprofit Management.

The series is sponsored by the United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, The Community Foundation, the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, the Institute for Constructive Advocacy, the James Madison University Department of Social Work, JMU Outreach & Engagement, The School of Public and International Affairs at JMU, Strategic Leadership Studies, and the Shenandoah Valley Small Business Development Center.

Schedule

The Non-Profit Institute's sessions are held on at the JMU Ice House on the first Tuesday of each month from October 14, 2014 until April 14, 2015. Classes go from 8:30am until 3:30pm.

Each course in the program is designed to:
- Promote the effectiveness of non-profit leaders, including executive directors, CEOs, managers, and Board members
- Refine the skills of experienced directors as well as help prepare entry level managers for new roles in the organization
- Enhance current job performance by providing a "tool box" of practical skills and knowledge for day-to-day operations
- Promote excellence in non-profit management

Registration

Registration is $400, and includes all materials, a continental breakfast, and lunch. The deadline for registering is August 15, 2014, and the class size is limited to 25 students.  A  small number of scholarships are available.

Payments accepted online by credit card (AMEX, MasterCard, Visa and Discover.) There is a $5 processing fee to pay by credit card. If you would like to pay by check, cashier's check or money order, you may click "bill" during the payment step and we will email you an invoice with instructions on how to remit payment within two business days. The option to be billed will close August 01, 2014. If payment is not received by the due date, your registration will be cancelled.
