About SRI
Recognized as a leader across multiple technology sectors, SRI International is an independent, nonprofit research and innovation center conducting client-sponsored research and development for government, industry, foundations, and other organizations.  With 2,500 employees worldwide, SRI International has more than 1,000 patents.  Notable SRI innovations include ultrasound technology for medical diagnostics, the computer mouse and fundamentals of modern computing, Virtual Personal Assistant (VPA) technology such as Siri, telerobotic surgery, and treatments for cancer and infectious diseases.

Locally, SRI International has operated its Center for Advanced Drug Research (CADRE) since 2007, first at James Madison University and now in a new facility in Innovation Village at Rockingham, the County's technology park.  A new venture, Redcoat Solutions, Inc., has resulted from research and development conducted locally at SRI. Redcoat will soon launch bed bug detection products into commercial and consumer markets.

About the Shenandoah Valley Innovation Coalition
The Shenandoah Valley Innovation Coalition (SVIC), of which the SV SBDC is a member, is an informal association of organizations and private sector entrepreneurs supporting economic growth and vitality in the region. Our mission is to "create a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation for the long-term economic and community well-being of this area and the larger Shenandoah Valley."  SVIC members provide a balanced representation of government, business, and education.

Dr. Carlson's speech will serve as the lead effort of the Innovation Coalition, with sponsored activities and community-based trainings to follow. The SVIC hosted the Harrisonburg Startup Weekend in April 2013; the next StartUp Weekend is set for Feb 7-9, 2014. Watch this Website for details.
