business smarts bookTelling Your Business Story

Join us for business over breakfast!  Each month we co-host a morning filled with business education and networking.  The 2014 Business Smarts Series' focus is Telling Your Business Story.  Every small business has a story to tell.  This year will explore the methods and media you can use to tell your unique story.

Telling Your Business Story:  Using Social Media

Originally, “social media” interactions took place over coffee or drinks or after the Sunday services.  Meet new people. Greet people. Share information. Make connections.  Simple and straightforward.  Nowadays, it’s a bit more complex. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, it’s all coming fast  - and sometimes too fast for you to keep up.

Today, we’ll talk about using social media to connect and engage your audience and how to effectively share your business story across the cloud.  This is not a “hands-on, how-to” class for any specific tool, but a time to reflect on appropriate strategies and best practices to move you forward in the social media community.

Our presenter today is Corey Hickerson, Ph.D.  Corey is an associate professor of Communication Studies at James Madison University and coordinates the public relations concentration. In 2014 he was named the Carl Harter Distinguished Professor for his teaching expertise and that same year, he won the Center for Instructional Technology’s Learning with Technology Award. Corey works every day with students to develop and refine social media strategies for business and industry.
