Lisa Wood is the Statewide Director of the Virginia Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) hosted by George Mason University. Prior to that, she served as the Statewide Director with the Connecticut and Ohio PTAC programs and was also Director for the Northwest Commission PTAC in Pennsylvania. Before joining the PTAC community, Lisa was a Procurement Specialist for Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.

Understanding Intellectual Property: A Deep Dive into Pathways for Your IP

Facilitated by the Virginia SBDC-ICAP and Virginia Bio.
ICAP and Virginia Bio are excited to announce our next presentation!
During this session, the USPTO will cover everything a startup needs to know in order to prepare to protect their intellectual property. This will include several examples from the life sciences and healthcare, but the information will be relevant to all early-stage companies. Following the initial presentation, there will be breakout sessions to cover specific topic areas in more detail. These will be led by an ICAP Mentor and USPTO expert.
There will be several ways to attend the event, including in-person at the USPTO in Alexandria, virtually, and at several in-person watch party locations around the Commonwealth.

Good recordkeeping plays a pivotal part in the success of your business, and it also plays a huge role in the preparation of your income tax return. During this presentation we will do a brief overview of Schedule C, Profit or Loss from Business, and discuss recordkeeping for your Schedule C.

During the presentation we will address:

  • the uses of recordkeeping
  • how to calculate gross profit and gross income
  • how to calculate net profit or loss
  • how to identify and deduct expenses
  • how to document income and expenses
  • recordkeeping timeframes
